Our Mission
TapReflex exists to make reaction time testing fast, free and honest. We want gamers, athletes and curious people to be able to measure how quickly they respond, understand what the numbers mean, and see real progress over time without creating an account or handing over personal data.
How We Measure Reaction Time
Visual test
The box changes from red to green after a random 2–5 second delay. The timer starts on the first screen frame that shows green and stops on your tap, so your result reflects your response rather than the time the browser needed to draw the page.
Audio test
A synthesized 440 Hz tone is generated with the Web Audio API. The timer starts at the moment the tone is triggered and stops on your tap. Sound reactions are usually faster than visual ones because the auditory pathway is shorter.
Aim test
Five targets appear one at a time at random positions. We record how long each takes to hit and how far from the center you clicked, giving you both a speed and a precision measure.
All timing uses the browser's high-resolution performance.now() clock and reads input on pointerdown during live rounds. Your screen refresh rate, input device and browser still add some delay, which is explained in our hardware latency guide. Results are estimates, not clinical measurements.
Who Built TapReflex
TapReflex is built and maintained by Benard Mukulu, an independent web developer who wanted a clean, fast and transparent reaction benchmark. The site runs entirely in your browser, and your scores are stored only on your own device. You can reach us at support@tapreflex.org.
Who It Is For
Gamers use it to compare monitors and mice, warm up before ranked play and track improvement. Athletes and coaches use it to practice quick decisions and monitor fatigue. Everyone else can use it to see how their reflexes compare with typical results for their age group.
